A Thousand Blues

Thousand Blues by Cheon Seon-ran is a heartfelt science fiction novel set in 2035, following two sisters determined to save their beloved racehorse, Today, from being discarded after years of overwork. Along their journey, they meet Coli, a discarded AI jockey, and together they devise an unconventional plan—not to win a race, but to let Today run the slowest race of her life. Blending themes of compassion, resistance to relentless productivity, and the importance of slowing down, the novel offers a moving reflection on the value of living at one’s own pace. Winner of the 4th Korea Sci-fi Literature Award, Thousand Blues has also been adapted into a stage musical, highlighting its cultural significance.
