Gifted by Suzumi Suzuki is a novella that follows a young woman working as a hostess in Tokyo's nightlife scene. As she navigates grief, past trauma, and the recent loss of a friend, she reflects on the life she has built for herself in a world that often feels both dazzling and isolating. Inspired by the author's own experiences in the adult entertainment industry, Gifted offers a raw and introspective look at family, survival, and self-discovery. The book was also shortlisted for the prestigious Akutagawa Prize.
